Should I try out for softball in the spring?

I’m going to be a freshman in August, and I’m trying out for the freshman girl’s basketball team. I’ve really been practicing and getting in shape. Because I have easy access to a court and basketballs etcetera.. But the problem is, I also really want to play softball in the spring, but I have absolutely no experience whatsoever… My brother got into varsity baseball his freshman year and has been playing it ever since, but now he’s out of high school and moving to go play with a college team. So I’m screwed and know no one who plays softball, and all the summer camps are over. He has all his old equipment stored in the garage. I need help on what to do. They don’t even have a freshman team, so I have to be good if I want to get at least into JV. Should I try? I know it’s a long time from now, but I don’t want to make a fool out of myself once tryouts come around.
Thanks! :)
Does anyone know how I can practice?

Defiantly play! I played softball since I was 6 till my senior year in high school and I had so much fun and made so many fond memories. Just remember fielding position bend your knees to where you knees are over your toes and your shoulders are over your knees. Do not stay flat footed. Its good to stay on your toes. Our coach always told us when the pitcher pitches the ball take a tiny step forward to make sure your on your toes. Also, always stay down on the ball to make sure the ball doesn’t get passed you. Now hitting I wasn’t the greatest at, just make sure, when at the plate you watch the ball being released from the pitchers hand and watch it all the way until the time your bat connects with the ball.
I hope you decide to play, its a great sport for girls to play. I also find it exciting! Good Luck with whatever decision you make :)

Yes, you should try out for the team. If you really don’t know anyone else that is at least decent at the game, then I suggest if you know anyone that plays baseball to try and help you out with at least the basics like baserunning, hitting, and fielding. They might not be able to help you with pitching though because of the under-hand motion. Well there’s my assistance. Take it however you please.
